由来
  • 1893年，居住在新加坡的园艺家卓锦万代兰小姐 （Vanda Miss Joaquim），成功为胡姬花配种。此新配种的胡姬花便以她的名字命名。
  • 1981年4月14日，卓锦万代兰成为新加坡国花。
  • 除此之外，新加坡也有以国花卓锦万代兰命名的公园和路名，如卓锦通道（Vanda Drive）和卓锦弯（Vanda Crescent）。
  • 国家公园局（National Parks）近日提到，卓锦万代兰的两个原生种应属类凤蝶兰（Papilionanthe），而不是万代兰（Vanda）。但卓锦万代兰的名称仍保留不变。
ETYMOLOGY
  • In 1893, Miss Agnes Joaquim, a horticulturist living in Singapore, successfully cultivated a breed of orchid through crossbreeding. This new breed of orchid was thus named after her.
  • On 14 April 1981, Vanda Miss Joaquim was chosen as Singapore’s national flower.
  • There are also parks and roads named after Vanda Miss Joaquim, such as Vanda Drive and Vanda Crescent.
  • According to National Parks, the parent plants for Vanda Miss Joaquim should be the Papilionanthe instead of the Vanda. However, the name Vanda Miss Joaquim has been retained.
