The Speak Mandarin Campaign “My Story” Public Speaking Competition was first launched in 2017, as an island-wide oratorical competition targeted at local students and teenagers between 13 and 18 years of age, with the objective to provide them with a platform to share their own inspiring stories. The competition also aims to hone the oratorical and presentation skills of these participants, as well as to build their confidence in expressing themselves in Mandarin.
Auditions
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the auditions for the competition were conducted online. Participants submitted their 30 seconds audition video online and finalists are shortlisted on Monday, 13 July 2020.
Grand Finals
The Grand Finals were held on Sunday, 26 July 2020, and comprised of 2 parts.
Part 1
Eight finalists compete to be shortlisted. They would each present a 90 seconds speech based on the topic “My Story”.
Part 2
The top four finalists would each present a 90 seconds speech based on the topic “My 2020”. Each finalist would also be given 60 seconds to speak on a given topic in the improvisation segment.
The audience had a chance to vote for their favourite contestant.
