The organisation responsible for the administration, management and operation of the common property in a Housing & Development Board (HDB) residential estate under a constituency.

  • 在市镇理事会法令（Town Councils Act）下，市镇理事会于1989年成立，旨在让当选的国会议员有权与居民携手管理组屋区里共用的设施。国会议员有权力与责任管理他们所属的单选区或集选区的政府组屋，而居民则可以参与相关事务的决策过程。双方的参与能让每个市镇发展出鲜明的特色，同时建立居民的认同感。
  • 首个市镇理事会在宏茂桥市镇成立，此后在1989年中旬至1991年中旬分三个阶段在新加坡全面推行。目前全岛共有17个市镇理事会。
  • 市镇理事会管理的事项众多，包括定期维修与更新组屋的设施。除此之外，市理会也负责市镇的财源管理，以确保有足够的金额维持理事会的运作。

ETYMOLOGY
  • Town Councils were formed in 1989 under the Town Councils Act, which allows elected Members of Parliament to work with residents in managing the common property in housing estates. Members of Parliament have the authority and responsibility to manage Housing & Development Board (HDB) residential estates under the Single Member Constituencies or Group Representation Constituencies which they are elected to, while residents can also participate in decision-making processes. The participation of both parties enables each town to develop its distinctive characteristics, while building a sense of identity among residents.
  • The first Town Council was established in Ang Mo Kio Town. Town Councils were implemented across Singapore in three phases from mid-1989 to mid-1991. Currently, there are 17 Town Councils across the island.
  • Town Councils handle a wide range of tasks, including regular maintenance and upgrading of common property in the housing estates. They are also responsible for managing the estate’s finances.
