The highest judicial court in Singapore, comprising the Court of Appeal and the High Court.

由来
  • 本地第一份司法宪章（First Charter of Justice）于1819年2月6日成立，当时刚好也是新加坡开埠时期。第二份司法宪章于1826年11月27日发布，新加坡依此成立了司法法院（Court of Judicature）。
  • 根据1868年的最高法院法例（Supreme Court Ordinance 1868）, 新加坡解散了原先的司法法院，并成立了海峡殖民地的最高法院（Supreme Court of the Straits Settlements）。
  • 1955年5月2日，Tan Ah Tah先生成为第一位委任于最高法院的新加坡法官。1963年1月5日，黄宗仁成为新加坡第一位委任为大法官的亚洲人，这是新加坡司法史上一大突破，因为从1867年以来委任为大法官的一律为英国人。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The First Charter of Justice was established on 6 February 1819, which coincided with the founding of Singapore. The Second Charter of Justice was issued on 27 November 1826, and the Court of Judicature was established.
  • In 1868, the Supreme Court Ordinance 1868 abolished the Court of Judicature and replaced it with the Supreme Court of the Straits Settlements.
  • On 2 May 1955, Tan Ah Tah became the first Singaporean judge to be appointed to the Supreme Court. On 5 January 1963, Wee Chong Jin became the first Asian to be appointed Chief Justice in the Supreme Court. This was a significant milestone in Singapore’s history, as all the Chief Justices since 1867 had been British.
