  • The Mandarin term “讲标准英语运动” is a paraphrase of the English term “Speak Good English Movement”.
  • Then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong launched the campaign on 29 April 2000 with the slogan “Speak Good English, Be Understood”.
  • While the Speak Good English Movement recognises Singlish as a cultural marker for some Singaporeans, it aims to raise awareness and promote the use of Standard English among Singaporeans.
