ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “‘新心相连’就业与技能配套” is a paraphrase of the English term “SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package”.
  • This package was launched as part of the Fortitude Budget announced by then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat on 26 May 2020.
  • The total value of this package was S$2.7 billion. It aimed to provide employment, internships, and training opportunities for employees displaced by the pandemic, fresh graduates, and mid-career switchers.
  • The package was expected to provide 100,000 employment and training opportunities, including 40,000 jobs, 25,000 internship positions and 30,000 vacancies for skills-training.
  • To better help jobseekers find stable jobs after the pandemic, the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Education, and the Public Service Division jointly announced four programmes, namely SGUnited Jobs, SGUnited Traineeships, SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways, and SGUnited Skills.
  • By December 2020, the package had successfully provided more than 70,000 people with opportunities for employment, internship, and training.
