An area located in the northeastern part of Singapore. It is bounded by the Tampines Expressway to the north, the Central Expressway to the west, and Yio Chu Kang Road to the south.

  • “盛港”有着“丰盛渔港”的意思。早期，这一带的居民多以捕鱼或种植胡椒、树胶及黄梨维生。
  • 实龙岗河（Serangoon River）位于新加坡东北部。这条河流从淡滨尼路（Tampines Road）附近开始，经过后港（Hougang），并在盛港与双溪槟榔河（Sungei Pinang）汇合。因为以前实龙岗河旁有一个渔港，所以盛港以前也被称为“港脚”。
  • 1994年，建屋发展局（Housing & Development Board，简称“建屋局”）规划了盛港新镇，为其制定的主题为“海员的市镇”（Town of the Seafarer）。许多盛港街道和社区的命名也与海或农作物有关，例如河谷（Rivervale）和安谷（Anchorvale，即锚谷）是以海为主题命名，而棕谷（Palmvale）和可可谷（Cocovale）则与农作物有关。

ETYMOLOGY
  • In Mandarin, the name “盛港” means “prosperous harbour”. In the early days, the residents of this area mostly made a living by fishing, or growing pepper, rubber and pineapples.
  • Sengkang was also known as “港脚”, meaning “foot of the port” as it was once the fishing port’s location along the Serangoon River. The river runs from near Tampines Road and passes through Hougang before being joined by Sungei Pinang in Sengkang.
  • In 1994, the Housing & Development Board (HDB) developed Sengkang New Town with the theme, “Town of the Seafarer”. The names of many streets and common areas in Sengkang are related to the sea (e.g., Rivervale and Anchorvale) and agriculture (Palmvale and Cocovale).
  • Sengkang is the first new town to have public transport amenities built in tandem with the public housing development. According to statistics from the HDB, Sengkang had 66,605 public flats in 2018, with an HDB resident population of approximately 212,100.
