  • “灵犬” 一词中的 “灵” 主要指机灵和灵敏。
  • 新加坡的灵犬主要可分为三种：警察部队的警犬、中央肃毒局的肃毒犬，以及民防部队的拯救犬。
  • 警犬比较凶猛，主要用于协助警察追捕歹徒。肃毒犬和拯救犬则比较温顺，前者主要用于协助肃毒人员寻找暗藏的毒品，后者主要用于协助民防人员在坍塌的建筑物中寻找幸存者。

ETYMOLOGY
  • In the Mandarin term “灵犬”, “灵” means intelligent and agile.
  • There are mainly three types of rescue dogs in Singapore: the police dogs of the Singapore Police Force, anti-narcotics dogs of the Central Narcotics Bureau, and rescue dogs of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
  • Police dogs are more ferocious and mainly assist the police in arresting criminals. Anti-narcotics dogs and rescue dogs are more docile. The former assist narcotics officers to search for hidden drugs and the latter assist civil defence personnel to search for survivors in collapsed buildings.
  • The SCDF started using rescue dogs in disaster rescue efforts in 1997. These dogs can use their keen sense of smell to search for survivors trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings.
  • In 2008, the SCDF started using rescue dogs to investigate locations where fires occurred.
  • Anti-narcotics dogs must be familiar with the smells of eight different drugs before they can be sent on anti-narcotics missions with narcotics officers.
  • Rescue dogs may also be deployed to Woodlands Checkpoint to aid in the  inspection of incoming vehicles and search for persons who may be hiding in the trunk or hidden compartments of vehicles.
