  • 1964年7月21日,新加坡发生了种族暴动。为了纪念这一天,政府于1997年将7月21日定为种族和谐日,提醒国人应不分种族和宗教,融洽地相处。
  • 国民教育(National Education)于1997年推行,种族和谐日也是国民教育所纪念的节日之一。本地学府都会在这一天举办纪念或庆祝活动。

ETYMOLOGY
  • On 21 July 1964, racial riots shook Singapore. To commemorate this day, the Government designated 21 July as Racial Harmony Day in 1997, to remind Singaporeans to live together in harmony regardless of race or religion.
  • Racial Harmony Day is one of the commemoration dates observed in National Education, which was also implemented in 1997. On this day, schools in Singapore organise various observance and celebration activities.
