由来
  • 布连拾街是与桥北路（North Bridge Road）平行的第六条主要街道。
  • 六马路原称富林街（Flint Street），之后为了避免与莱佛士坊（Raffles Place）的富林街混淆，便于 1858 年改名为布连拾街。
  • 布连拾街名称的由来是为了纪念一名律师布连拾（C.H. Prinsep）。布连拾律师原在六马路一带拥有一片豆蔻种植园，而其中部分园区后来被征用来兴建今天的布连拾街。
  • 有说法认为，早期也有人将与布连拾街相邻的肃街（Short Street）俗称为六马路，但约定俗成，一般只将六马路当作布连拾街的俗称。
  • 布连拾街长老会磐石堂（Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church）是六马路最著名的建筑，于 2000 年 1 月 12 日被列为新加坡国家古迹。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Prinsep Street is the sixth major road that runs parallel to North Bridge Road.
  • It was originally known as Flint Street, but was renamed as Prinsep Street in 1858 to avoid confusion with the homonymous Flint Street in Raffles Place.
  • Prinsep Street is named in commemoration of C.H. Prinsep, a lawyer. He owned a nutmeg plantation and part of the plantation was requisitioned to construct Prinsep Street.
  • It is believed that in the early days, some people regarded the adjacent Short Street as “六马路” (meaning “the sixth major road”), instead. However, it is now accepted through consensus that only Prinsep Street is known as “六马路”.
  • The Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church is the most notable building along Prinsep Street. It was listed as a National Monument of Singapore on 12 January 2000.
