释义

名词

一组用于识别每一栋楼的六位数邮政编号。

DEFINITION

Noun

A set of six-digit numbers used to identify buildings or postal districts.

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “邮区号码” is a paraphrase of the English term “postal code”. This method of demarcating and labelling districts originated from the United Kingdom, to help postmen deliver mail accurately.
  • In the 1950s, Singapore’s earliest postal codes were two-digit numbers, and the island was divided into 28 postal districts.
  • In 1979, postal codes in Singapore expanded to four digits.
  • In 1995, Singapore adopted six-digit postal codes. The first two digits are identical to the last two digits used in the preceding four-digit system, while the last four digits represent the points of delivery in the postal districts. These four digits are taken either from the block numbers of HDB flats or the identification numbers of buildings.
  • In 1995, to mark the launch of six-digit postal codes, Singapore Post rolled out two stamp designs depicting the evolution of postal codes.
  • By the end of March 1999, the usage rate of the six-digit postal codes had reached 98%.
  • In Singapore, postal codes are used not just for addressing mail and locating buildings, but also for residential registration, school enrolment, housing and other matters.
例句
吴庆辉又举例说,本地不同年代的地址也有不同的书写方式,1950年新加坡首次有邮区的划分,当时全岛只有28个邮区,两位数的邮区号码,从01到28。(《联合早报》,13/7/2020)
