A scheme that encouraged drivers to park their vehicles near Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations or bus stops and transfer to the MRT or bus to reach their destinations. Abbreviated as “停车转搭公交计划” in Mandarin.

  • 英语 “Park & Ride Scheme” 的意译。也称 “停车转车计划”、“停车转乘计划”、“停车转搭巴士计划”，以及 “停车转搭地铁计划”。
  • 1975 年，新加坡政府正式实行停车转搭公共交通工具计划。这项计划的主要目的为了缓解中央商业区（Central Business District）的交通拥挤现象。
  • 计划推出初期，陆路交通管理局（Land Transport Authority）倡议公路使用者转搭公共巴士进入中央商业区。
  • 1993 年，此计划的范围扩展到了地铁服务。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “停车转搭公共交通工具计划” is a paraphrase of the English term “Park and Ride Scheme”. Also known in Mandarin as “停车转车计划”, “停车转乘计划”, “停车转搭巴士计划”, and “停车转搭地铁计划”.
  • In 1975, the Singapore government formally implemented the Park and Ride Scheme to reduce traffic congestion in the Central Business District.
  • Initially, the Land Transport Authority encouraged drivers to transfer to public buses heading into the Central Business District.
  • In 1993, the scheme was expanded to include the MRT.
  • Under this scheme, drivers should drive to designated carparks near MRT stations or bus interchanges before transferring to the MRT or bus to reach their destinations.
  • At the initial implementation of the scheme, there were 26 of such designated carparks.
  • Also during the rollout of the scheme, approximately 1,000 drivers signed up for the scheme every month.
  • By 2005, there were 36 designated carparks islandwide.
  • As the transport system in Singapore has developed further in recent years, an increasing number of people use public transport to commute, leading to a decline in the scheme’s participation by the year.
  • The Land Transport Authority terminated the scheme on 1 December 2016.
