由来
- 1975 年 12 月 12 日，一群来自南洋大学的学生出于对诗歌创作的热忱，成立了南洋大学诗社，简称“南大诗社”。
- 南大诗社是新加坡建国以后所成立的首个纯诗歌团体，其创作风格偏向于现代主义。
- 南大诗社的首届社长为黄继豪，其他主要成员还包括潘正镭、陈来水、郑英豪、杜南发以及张泛等人。
- 不论是在校内或是校外，诗社的活跃程度皆十分可观。在诗社成立后的隔年，该团体便已出版诗刊《红树林》。
- 1980 年，诗社因南洋大学和新加坡大学合并而解散。
- 南大诗社解散后，在诗社顾问杨松年博士与议员钱翰琮的牵线之下，于阿裕尼联络所成立了由校内外成员所组织的附属学会——阿裕尼文艺创作与翻译学会（The Aljunied Creative Writing and Translation Group），从而延续了社团的创作活动。
ETYMOLOGY
- On 12 December 1975, driven by a passion for poetry writing, a group of students from Nanyang University established the Nanyang University Poetry Society, abbreviated in Mandarin as “南大诗社”.
- The Nanyang University Poetry Society is the first group focusing entirely on poetry to be established in Singapore since its independence. The society’s creative style leans towards modernism.
- The first president of the Nanyang University Poetry Society is Ng Kee How. Its other main members include Pan Cheng Lui, Tan Lye Chwee, Tay Eng How, Toh Lam Huat, and Ken Chang.
- The poetry society was very active both in and out of campus. The year after its establishment, the society published its special poetry magazine “红树林”.
- In 1980, the poetry society was dissolved due to the merger of Nanyang University and the University of Singapore.
- After the dissolution of the Nanyang University Poetry Society, The Aljunied Creative Writing and Translation Group, a subsidiary society of the original group, was established in Aljunied Community Centre, made up of members both within and outside the university. This was facilitated by the advisor to the poetry society Dr Yeo Song Nian and Member of Parliament Chin Harn Tong, thus allowing the continuation of the society’s creative activities.
