由来

滨海堤坝由公用事业局（Public Utilities Board，简称 PUB）管理，于 2008 年 10 月 31 日正式启用。
滨海堤坝宽 350 米，建于滨海水道口，约有一万公顷的集水区，是首个建立在市中心的蓄水池。
滨海堤坝拥有七个重约 28 吨的水泵（bèng），以及九个 30 米长，由液压操纵的钢制堤坝闸门。这些水泵能在涨水时将多余的水排放到滨海湾的蓄水池当中，避免淹水的问题。
滨海堤坝是结合防洪、供水以及休闲娱乐的三合一设施。作为结合实用性与娱乐性的工程，它是新加坡的热门景点之一，也是许多大型活动的举办地点，当中就包括每年 7 月份举办的风筝日（Kite Day）。
2019 年，为配合世界水日（World Water Day）, 公用事业局推出 “GoBlue4SG” 活动，并在滨海堤坝举办了以水蓝色为主题的夜间嘉年华。

ETYMOLOGY

Marina Barrage is managed by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) and was officially opened on 31 October 2008.
Marina Barrage is 350m wide and built across Marina Channel. It has a catchment area of about 10,000 hectares and is the first reservoir to be built in the downtown city area.
Marina Barrage has a total of seven drainage pumps weighing 28 tonnes each and nine steel crest gates that are 30-meters-long and hydraulically operated. These gates are capable of discharging excess water into the reservoir of Marina Bay during times of high tide, thereby alleviating flooding.
Marina Barrage is in a three-in-one facility that prevents flooding, supplies water, and provides leisure and entertainment. A project that combines practicality and entertainment, Marina Barrage is a popular attraction in Singapore. It is also a venue where many large-scale events are held, which includes the annual Kite Day held every July.
In 2019, PUB launched the GoBlue4SG event in conjunction with World Water Day, featuring a blue themed night carnival at Marina Barrage.
