DEFINITION

Noun

All the relevant litigation fees to be paid by the litigants.

ETYMOLOGY
  • The term generally refer to all fees related to legal matters, including the fees for hiring a lawyer, court fees and hearing fees to be paid to the court, and court service fees for the commissioners of oaths.
  • After the litigation trial, the judge will fully decide the legal cost that the litigants must pay.
  • In Singapore, costs are usually awarded to the winning party. The court will have to make the order for the losing party to pay the winning party what is known as party-to-party costs. Such sums are usually fixed by the court or subject to taxation proceeding. However, this is only partial reimbursement of the total legal fees to be paid by the winning party.
