由来
  • 工业与职业训练局 (Vocational and Industrial Training Board) 自1979年成立以来，在新加坡的职能与技术训练方面扮演着举足轻重的角色。
  • 1992年四月，工业与职业训练局由“后中学学府” (post-secondary institution) 工艺教育学院 (Institute of Technical Education，简称“工教院”) 取代，目的是提升新加坡的职业训练。
  • 因为新加坡当时迈向高科技的发展，雇主较有可能聘请完成10年教育并在中学毕业后接受职业训练的职员，为此许多机构也鼓励员工提升自己的技能。
  • 要报读工艺教育学院的全职课程，必须拥有新加坡剑桥普通教育证书 (初级水准 (Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Examination [Normal Level]，简称“N水准”) 或新加坡剑桥普通教育证书 (普通水准) (Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Examination [Ordinary Level]，简称“O水准”) 的文凭。工艺教育学院也是提供在职工作人士提升技能的学府。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Founded in 1979, the Vocational and Industrial Training Board (VITB) played a pivotal role in providing functional and technical training in Singapore.
  • In April 1992, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) replaced VITB. ITE is a post-secondary institution that aims to upgrade vocational training in Singapore.
  • At that time, as Singapore was moving towards high-end technology, employers were more likely to hire those who had completed ten years of education and received vocational training after graduating from secondary school. Many organisations also encouraged their employees to upgrade their skills.
  • The Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Normal Level (GCE N-Level) examinations or Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O-Level) certificate is the pre-requisite for enrolling in a full-time course at ITE. ITE also offers courses to working adults to improve their skills.
