由来
  • 新加坡教育部于1984年推出高才教育 (Gifted Education Programme)，主要是因为教育部认为拥有智力和才能方面的天赋的孩童，需要一个能够挑战他们这方面的天赋的环境。此外，没有天然资源的新加坡仰赖的是人力资本，高才教育则被视为培养成功人士的重要途径。
  • 教育部推出的高才教育主要是鼓励学校设计和实施增广课程，或者是与其他学校合作，培养学生在语言、美术、数学及科学方面的才能。
  • 高才教育计划开放给小学四年级的学生，但在小学三年级时，就会通过相关的项目，甄选在智力和才能方面有天赋的学生。
  • 甄选项目有两个阶段，分别在八月和十月进行，所有就读政府学校和政府辅助学校的小三学生，可参加第一阶段英语和数学的甄选测试。通过第一阶段测试的学生则会在第二阶段中接受英语、数学及一般才能 (General Ability) 的测试。
ETYMOLOGY
  • In 1984, the Ministry of Education (MOE) rolled out the Gifted Education Programme (GEP) to provide intellectually gifted students with a learning environment that would challenge their abilities. This was aimed at cultivating human capital in resource-scarce Singapore.
  • The GEP encourages schools to design and implement courses that widen students’ horizons, as well as to collaborate with other schools in developing students’ talents in areas such as languages, arts, mathematics and science.
  • Entry to the GEP takes place in Primary Four and is determined through an identification exercise in Primary Three.
  • There are two stages in the exercise. All students enrolled in MOE primary schools can participate in the first stage, in which English and Mathematics are tested. Those who progress to the second stage are tested in English, Mathematics and General Ability.
