  • 为了取代日趋复杂的中央限制区执照计划（Area Licensing Scheme，简称 ALS），陆路交通管理局（Land Transport Authority，简称陆交局）于 1998 年 4 月 1 日正式推出了全自动 化的公路电子收费系统（Electronic Road Pricing，简称 ERP）。
  • 公路电子收费系统实行前夕，当局自 1997 年九月份开始便为车辆安装阅卡器。在十个月之内，当局已为约 680，000 辆车子成功安装了阅卡器。
  • 第一代阅卡器只支持星网电子付款（NETS）的现金卡（CashCard），驾驶者须将符合非接触式电子钱包应用标准（Contactless e-Purse Application Specification，简称 CEPAS）的卡放入车内所安装的阅卡器槽内。当驾驶过收费路段时，路段上所安装的电子闸门便会通过阅卡器扣除相应的费用。
  • 2009 年 6 月 30 日起，陆交局推出了第二代阅卡器，将所能使用的支付卡拓展至任何符合非接触式电子钱包应用标准的卡，以及信用卡。
  • 2014 年开始，建屋局（Housing Development Board）开始实行电子停车系统（Electronic Parking System，简称 EPS），借助电子闸门以及车内的阅卡器，实行免接触式的停车付费。
ETYMOLOGY
  • To replace the increasingly complex Area Licensing Scheme (ALS), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) officially rolled out the fully automated Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system on 1 April 1998.
  • In the run-up to the implementation of the ERP, the authorities began installing card readers in cars starting from September 1997. Within 10 months, the authorities had successfully installed card readers in about 680,000 cars.
  • The first-generation card reader supported only NETS and CashCard payments. Drivers had to insert cards complying with the Contactless e-Purse Application Specification (CEPAS) into the slot of the card reader installed in their cars. When driving through a toll-charging road section, the electronic gantry installed over the road would deduct the corresponding fees through the card reader.
  • Starting from 30 June 2009, the LTA rolled out the second-generation card reader, which extended the compatibility of payment cards to all cards that comply with CEPAS, as well as credit cards.
  • Starting from 2014, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) implemented the Electronic Parking System (EPS), where parking fees are collected by contactless payment via the electronic gantries and card readers in the cars.
