A neighbourhood located in the northeastern part of Singapore, adjacent to Hougang and Sengkang.

  • 万国一带曾经是新加坡树胶公司（Singapore United Rubber Plantations Limited）的土地。其英文名称“Buangkok”是根据该公司的中文名“万国”的潮州话发音音译而成。
  • 新加坡最后的甘榜村落——甘榜罗弄万国（Kampong Lorong Buangkok）就在万国里头。1956年，中药商贩孙朝坤买下了这块土地，而它后来由其女儿孙梅虹继承。
  • 截至2023年，甘榜罗弄万国目前有26家马来族和华族的住户。虽然甘榜所在的土地已经在进行重建，但是考虑到罗弄万国是值得保留的地方，因此针对该地的发展计划还未实施。

ETYMOLOGY
  • Much of the land around Buangkok used to be owned by Singapore United Rubber Plantations Limited. The name “Buangkok” is a transliteration of the Teochew pronunciation of the company’s name “万国”.
  • Kampong Lorong Buangkok, the last kampung in Singapore, sits within Buangkok. In 1956, Sng Teow Koon, a traditional Chinese medicine seller, bought this piece of land. It was then inherited by his daughter Sng Mui Hong.
  • As of 2023, there were 26 Malay and Chinese households living in the kampung. Although the land on which the kampung is located is already marked for redevelopment, the plans have yet to be implemented due to considerations that the kampung is a heritage site worth preserving.
  • The opening of Buangkok Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Station in 2006, together with the amenities around it, made Buangkok a more attractive residential estate for Housing & Development Board (HDB) flat buyers.
  • In 2019, the Buangkok Integrated Development was included in the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Draft Master Plan. This project, due to be completed by 2025, includes Buangkok MRT Station, a bus interchange, a community club, a hawker centre, and retail stores.
