由糯米制成的粿类食品，因红色的粿皮和印有龟型图案而得名。

Noun

A snack or pastry made using glutinous rice. The name literally translates as “red tortoise cake”, named after its red coloured skin imprinted with a tortoise pattern.

  • “红龟粿”一词源自于福建话 ang ku kueh。
  • 红龟粿的粿皮由糯米制成，再染成红色。接着，将拌入糖的豆 沙、花生或椰丝塞入其中作为内馅，再用模具印上龟形图样， 最后放入蒸笼蒸制。
  • 红龟粿有吉祥、圆满、发财、长寿（龟的象征）及子孙繁衍的好寓意，一般用于神佛诞辰或祭祀等，也用于做寿、庆满月、 丧葬等华人节日。
  • 红龟粿也是本地娘惹在喜庆节日中必备的食品之一。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The name “ang ku kueh” originates from the Hokkien dialect.
  • Ang ku kueh is made of glutinous rice flour dyed red, stuffed with sweetened bean paste, peanut paste or grated coconut filling. It is imprinted with a tortoise pattern using a wooden mould, before being steamed.
  • Ang ku kueh signifies auspiciousness, completeness, wealth, longevity (symbolised by the tortoise) and abundant progeny. It is commonly used in the feast days of deities, religious rituals, birthday celebrations, baby one-month celebrations, funerals and other special occasions.
  • Ang ku kueh is also one of the must-have festive foods of the Peranakan (nyonya) community.
