To promote Tamil speaking among youth, it is necessary to ensure their accessibility to the ways to improve language practice and create the opportunities to speak and utilize their ability in Tamil speaking. Tamil debate is one of the best ways to encourage youths to speak in Tamil and also listen to the ideologies, themes, examples to provide the defending arguments about certain problems endorsed them in our society, all presented in Tamil. The topics will be broad in dimension and appealing to all speakersso that the judge may give the judgment of the debate. Our programme is planned to engage approximately 50 youths from local schools or institutions to participate for the Tamil debate speakers’ competition through few rounds to select for final programme. This will create the opportunity for those who are practicing regularly and engage those who wish to develop their debate speaking skills. For selection rounds we may also engage local experts to screen and select appropriate winners from the competitors. We will also engage a Tamil veteran scholar as judge for the Tamil debate final session.
