7 Wonders of Tamil

2022-TLF---Brahmastra-Ensemble---7-Wonders-of-Tamil

30 April 2022
7 pm - 9 pm

7 original compositions will be produced by Brahmastra Ensemble featuring Singaporean Indian classical musicians. Those compositions will be then presented to our community through a music album launch that will happen in May 2022.

These compositions will feature 7 local lyricists whereby 3 of them will be existing writers from the Tamil Language Fraternity namely, Ashwinii Selavaraj, Dhinesh Selvaraj and Yaya Rathakrishnan. As for the other 4 writers, we would be conducting an open call for local writers to volunteer and showcase their passion and talent by submitting their poems(composed within the above mentioned contexts) for the feature. The 7 compositions as well as poems will cover 7 themes in the Tamil language namely:

1. வேர்கள்(Roots)
2. கலாச்சாரம் (Culture)
3. பாரம்பரியம் (Traditions)
4. கதைகள் (Narratives)
5. உரையாடல்கள் (Conversations)
6. உறவுகள் (Relationships)
7. சமகால நீட்டிப்புகள் (Contemporary Extensions)

Brahmastra will choose 4 best poems from the open call and use the 3 poems from the Tamil Language Fraternity to compose and produce music for the poems and convert them into songs. Music composition and production will be done by Multi award winning Musician, Niranjan Pandian.
The 7 songs will feature local singers based in Singapore. The following list is the singers that we plan to call up for the performance:

1) Nandhitha
2) Swathi Suresh
3) Sushma Somasekharan
4) Chitra Poornima
5) Irfanullah
6) Sai Vignesh
7) Pravin Saivi

The programme may also feature renowned international singer (tentatively, Haricharan) and up to 7 Local Singers.
These tracks will then be performed live and also be released live worldwide. We have also planned to share the songs with the use of lyrical videos by Vasanthakumar Anbalagan. In addition, we will also be filming a music video on the finale piece and the visuals will accompany the performance.
The live performance will showcase the poet reading his/her poem which will be followed by the musical and visual representation of the poem. For the musical representation Brahmastra Ensemble will perform together with the respective singer singing the corresponding song. For the finale song, the visuals will run simultaneously with the musical performance.
