The word ‘innovation’ comes from the Latin word ‘innovatus’ meaning ‘to renew. This play is a cultural innovation about Bharathi and presenting him in a renewed manner that has not been done ever before. பாரதியும் நானும் [Bharathi and me] is a play that looks at Bharathi’s life through the eyes of his family members, fellow literary personalities, freedom fighters and the public. Subramania Bharati (1882–1921) is exceptional as he was himself a cultural innovator who still has an abiding influence on modern writing in Tamil and contemporary relevance. Using resources available, the playwright Pugalenthii is weaving the story of his life and his many tribulations. In addition, he also delves on the how and when he authored specific poems and their inspirations.
