2016 TLF Tamil in the Western World

17 April 2016
3.00 pm to 6.00 pm

While youths in Singapore grow up learning Tamil as their mother tongue for over ten years, many are unable to appreciate its beauty, especially outside the Asian realm. Instead of reiterating the fact that the Tamil language will not thrive if we, as Tamils, refuse to speak it, we have decided to take a different approach to make youths realize the goodness of Tamil.

As such, we will be putting up a short skit, including performances as well as digital media presentations, portraying the history of Tamil and how it has spread to the other parts of the world. The audience will be taken back to history to learn about the growth and evolution of Tamils in the past few millenniums. A chronological timeline will be created as our characters travel through the different eras in the past.

We will not only be exploring the differences between the lifestyles of Tamils then and now, but also about the different dynasties, the long lost practices of Tamils and about notable Tamils who have brought a change in the history of Tamil language.

Through this event, we aim to promote Tamil language to Non-Tamils and Tamils, and also to educate the youths about the beautiful journey of Tamil and its people.
