Secondary School Competition

An opportunity for secondary students to challenge and develop a research interest on Tamil literature written by various Singapore's Tamil writers for the past 50 years from Tamil Digital Heritage database and make an Audio Visual presentation.

Guest Speaker Profile

Mr. Maalan V. Narayanan is a writer by choice and a journalist by profession born in India in 1950; he graduated from Madurai University and later pursued his higher studies in journalism at University of Florida, Gainesville, US. He has 17 titles to his credit, some of which have won awards and many of them are being discussed in university classrooms of contemporary writing. He was the guest of honour in some literary festivals such as Writers’ Week celebrations of Singapore, Read! Singapore and Boao Forum for Asia, China. His poems have found a place in the anthology of protest poetry, Voices of Emergency, compiled by Prof. John Oliver Perry of Tufts University, USA and in the Anthology of Tamil poetry by Sahitya Academy of India. Some of his stories were translated into Chinese, Malay, French, English and in Indian languages and have appeared in the leading English and Indian Language magazines and in Anthologies.  He has served on leading Tamil magazines and newspapers and is a pioneer in Tamil television journalism.

He has served in the Senate of various universities and in advisory boards of National Book Trust, Translations Today and other academic/literary bodies.

He is a member of the Advisory Board for Tamil of Sahitya Akademi (National Academy of letters) and a member of Commonwealth Journalist Association, South Asian Literary Association.
