  • 根据调查,每年平均有9,000名前罪犯完成刑期并从各个监狱和戒毒所(Drug Rehabilitation Centres)获得释放,但他们常在出狱后就受到社会的歧视和压力。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The name of the Yellow Ribbon Project originates from a 1970s song, “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree”, which is believed to have been written based on the true story of an ex-offender who was forgiven by society.
  • In Singapore, studies have shown that an average of 9,000 ex-offenders complete their sentences and are released from prisons and Drug Rehabilitation Centres every year. However, they often face discrimination and societal pressure after their release.
  • On 2 October 2004, CARE Network launched the Yellow Ribbon Project to change societal perceptions and provide ex-offenders with opportunities for rehabilitation. The launch was officiated by then President S.R. Nathan at the Yellow Ribbon Project Charity Concert.
  • In 2007, the Yellow Ribbon Project was presented with the United Nations Department of Public Information Honourable Mention Award.
  • The signature activities of the Yellow Ribbon Project include the Yellow Ribbon Prison Run. In 2013, the Yellow Ribbon Project celebrated its tenth anniversary with 1,230 participants of its charity run forming a giant human Yellow Ribbon. In 2023, the run attracted over 6,500 participants, consisting of both locals and foreigners.
  • Funds raised from its charity runs go to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which is mainly used to fund various rehabilitation, social reintegration and family support programmes, such as the Yellow Ribbon Community Project and the Yellow Ribbon Fund Skills Training Assistance to Restart Bursary.
