ETYMOLOGY
  • The term originated from Hokkien.
  • It is believed that peanut pancakes originated from Fujian province in China, and later became popular in places such as Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and Indonesia.
  • The pancake is made using a wheat-flour batter. In addition to the traditional peanut filling, other options that have been introduced include grated coconut, red bean paste, cheese, condensed milk, and banana slices.
  • To make a peanut pancake, the batter is poured into a round flat pan and pan-fried. The filling is then added, and the pancake is folded into a semicircle before being removed from the pan.
