• The Mandarin term “单班制” is a paraphrase of the English term “single-session system”.
• In 2009, the Primary Education Review and Implementation Committee recommended that all primary schools in Singapore switch to a single-session system by 2010.
• The single-session system was implemented mainly to promote a well-rounded education, by giving students more time to participate in co-curricular activities.
• The start and end times for single-session schools differ from those of double-session schools. For the latter, the morning session typically starts at 7:30 am and ends at 1 pm, while the afternoon session begins at around 1 pm and ends at around 6:30 pm.
• Although the Ministry of Education has encouraged primary schools to implement the single-session system, as of 2019 there were still five primary schools operating in dual sessions. However, after renovation, most of these schools were expected to switch to a single session.

In 2010, the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan donated more than S$12 million to add more classrooms at its affiliated schools over the course of six years. This allowed five primary schools to adopt the single-session system, and provided them with the funds to build additional facilities beyond the Ministry of Education’s basic requirements.
