• The Mandarin term “乐龄” is believed to have first appeared in Singapore in the 1970s. At that time, the first local activity centre for the elderly was established at Maude Road in Jalan Besar and was named“乐龄中心” (Senior Activity Centre). Since then, “乐龄” gradually became a synonym for the elderly in Singapore.
• “乐龄” literally translates as “happy age”. The term implies that one’s senior years can be a time of happiness.

The first large-scale facility, combining a Senior Care Centre and Active Ageing Hub, has officially opened in Singapore. Besides providing extended hours of daycare and social activities to more than 200 elderly residents in Ghim Moh, Queenstown, Ulu Pandan, Clementi and Bukit Timah, the facility also provides emergency care for the elderly residents living in the 222 studio apartments nearby.
