由来
  • 1992年，市区重建局（Urban Redevelopment Authority）提出了发展市中心（Downtown Core）的计划。
  • 1996年8月20日，时任新加坡国家发展部（Ministry of National Development）部长林勋强宣布新市区计划将拓展滨海湾这一繁荣的金融和商业地段。市区重建局翌年公布了这项计划的具体目标与方向。
  • 新市区计划的目的是将滨海湾打造为21世纪国际商业和全球金融中心。
  • 此外，由于新市区将是居住及商业和娱乐活动的首选地点，其发展计划也包括扩展中央商业区、建造高品质的住宅、增添休闲娱乐设施等。
ETYMOLOGY
  • In 1992, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) proposed plans to develop the Downtown Core area.
  • On 20 August 1996, Lim Hng Kiang, then Minister for National Development, announced the new downtown plan to develop a vibrant financial and commercial area at Marina Bay. The following year, the URA announced specific objectives and directions for this plan.
  • The purpose of the new downtown plan was to transform Marina Bay into an international business hub and global financial centre for the 21st century.
  • In addition, as the new downtown would become a top location for residential, commercial and entertainment activities, its development plan also included the expansion of the Central Business District and the construction of high-quality residences and leisure and entertainment facilities.
