马来民间日常美食,用米加椰浆与班兰叶煮成饭,传统搭配辣椒酱、江鱼仔、鸡蛋、黄瓜及煎鱼食用。

Noun

A common local Malay delicacy. The dish comprises rice cooked with coconut milk and pandan leaves, and may be eaten with sambal (chilli paste), ikan bilis (dried anchovies), eggs, cucumber and fried fish.

ETYMOLOGY
  • The term “nasi lemak” comes from the Malay language. Nasi refers to rice, while lemak means oils or fats. Rice cooked with coconut milk has a rich, oily texture, hence the dish became known as nasi lemak.
  • Nasi lemak was originally a simple dish eaten by Malays. Today, it is enjoyed by people of all races, and has come to be served with a wide range of side dishes.
