由来
  • 南洋大学 (简称 “南大”) 成立于1955年，是东南亚第一所以华文为教学媒介的大学。
  • 其校训“自强不息、力求上进”体现出了南大精神的精髓，主要概述创办南洋大学的困难和后来于逆境中求存的精神。
  • 1980年八月，南洋大学与新加坡大学 (University of Singapore) 合并，成为新加坡国立大学 (National University of Singapore)，校址转由新的南洋理工学院 (Nanyang Technological Institute) 使用。1991年，南洋理工学院又与国立教育学院 (National Institute of Education) 合并，成为南洋理工大学 (Nanyang Technological University)。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Nanyang University, abbreviated in Mandarin as “南大” (“Nantah”), was founded in 1955. It was the first Chinese-medium university in Southeast Asia.
  • The motto “To thrive in adversity, to strive and improve oneself constantly” embodied the essence of the Nantah spirit, which reflected the difficulties encountered in establishing Nanyang University and its fighting spirit in the face of adversity.
  • In August 1980, Nanyang University was merged with the University of Singapore to form the National University of Singapore (NUS). Its former grounds were taken over by a new body, Nanyang Technological Institute, which later became Nanyang Technological University (NTU) after merging with the National Institute of Education in 1991.
