• MacRitchie Reservoir, built in 1867, was Singapore’s first reservoir. It was originally known as the Impounding Reservoir.
• The reservoir was expanded in 1891 under the direction of Municipal Engineer James MacRitchie. In 1907, it was renamed Thomson Road Reservoir to commemorate John Turnbull Thomson, the former Superintendent of Roads and Public Works. In 1922, the reservoir was renamed in honour of MacRitchie.
• MacRitchie Reservoir Park officially opened on 4 August 1967. The park features jogging trails, fitness areas, children’s playgrounds, and a bandstand.
• On 5 November 2004, the 25-metre-high TreeTop Walk in MacRitchie Reservoir Park opened.
• MacRitchie Reservoir Park is also a popular venue for water sports enthusiasts to engage in kayaking and canoeing.

Lornie Nature Corridor, which opened yesterday, comprises a Nature Way and a Park Connector. It also connects to the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, which not only enhances the experience for Coast-to-Coast Trail users in the western and north-eastern areas, but also serves as a green trail between MacRitchie Reservoir Park and Adam Road. • The tomb of war hero Lim Bo Seng, who undertook resistance activities against the Japanese Occupation, is located in MacRitchie Reservoir Park.
• Syonan Jinja was a shrine built at MacRitchie Reservoir in 1942 by the Japanese to commemorate its soldiers who died in Singapore. It was opened in 1943, but was destroyed after the Japanese surrender in 1945.
