由来
  • 马来语 ais kacang 的意译。在马来语中 ais 指冰,而 kacang 泛指豆。
  • 有说法认为红豆冰源自于1950至1960年代间的“冰球”。当时售卖冷饮的小贩将冰刨碎后塑成球状,淋上了彩色糖浆,形成了独特的甜品。随着时代的发展和用料的演变,“冰球”成了如今的红豆冰。
  • 除了堆成像山丘的刨冰之外,红豆冰一般还加入红小豆、凉粉 、彩色糖浆(以红绿两色为主)、炼奶、果冻、甜玉米、亚答籽等材料。
  • 在讲求创新的年代,新加坡的饮食业面临极大竞争,许多商家和摊贩推陈出新,在红豆冰里加入了什锦水果、巧克力、榴梿果肉等特殊食材,以吸引食客尝鲜。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “红豆冰” is a paraphrase of the Malay term ais kacang, in which ais refers to ice and kacang refers to beans.
  • Ice kachang is believed to have originated from “冰球” (literally, “ice balls”) in the 1950s and 1960s. At that time, vendors of cold drinks would shape shaved ice into balls and pour coloured syrups on them to create a refreshing treat. Over time, with changes in ingredients, these evolved into today’s ice kachang.
  • Ice kachang is typically served as a mound of shaved ice adorned with ingredients such as red beans, jelly, coloured syrups (mainly red and green), condensed milk, fruit jelly, sweetcorn, and attap seeds.
  • To attract customers in Singapore’s highly competitive food scene, some innovative stalls now offer novel toppings such as assorted fruits, chocolate and even durian.
