• As part of the Government’s vision to transform Singapore from a “Garden City” to a “City in a Garden”, Gardens by the Bay was officially conceptualised in 2005.
• Construction began in November 2007. The entire park comprises three gardens, namely Bay South, Bay East, and Bay Central, with a total area of 101 hectares.
• Gardens by the Bay was officially opened in June 2012 by then Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
• Bay South is home to two large glass conservatories, namely Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, and 18 Supertrees. Flower Dome simulates dry cold climate conditions, houses a wide flora collection from around the world, and holds various themed floral exhibitions. Cloud Forest, which is 35 metres in height, simulates humid cold climate conditions and houses a wide variety of lush vegetation. The Supertrees are vertical gardens made of steel and concrete.
• Gardens by the Bay was presented with the Thea Awards in January 2014, one of the most reputable awards in the themed entertainment sector.
• In September 2014, Flower Dome set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest glass greenhouse.
• The design and construction of Gardens by the Bay upholds the principles of sustainability and optimises the usage of energy and water resources. The two large glass greenhouses adopt high-tech energy-saving cooling systems which reduce energy consumption by 30%. The unique glass panels of the greenhouses also allow sunlight to penetrate while reducing indoor temperature.

In conjunction with its tenth anniversary, Gardens by the Bay launched Green Guardians, an educational outreach programme on sustainability and conservation for local institutions. (Lianhe Zaobao, 23/2/2022)

• The OCBC “Garden Rhapsody” light and sound show premiered at the Supertree Grove in July 2012.
• The inaugural Christmas Wonderland was held at Gardens by the Bay in 2014 and has become an annual event.
