ETYMOLOGY
  • The character “干” means “dry” and carries connotations of “clean and hygienic”. The Mandarin term “巴刹” is the transliteration of the Malay pasar, which means market.
  • Dry markets are generally found in air-conditioned malls, supermarkets, or on the ground floor of high-rise residential blocks.
  • The products sold in dry markets include vegetables, fruits, grains, daily necessities, clothing and ritual supplies.
