A traditional Malay upper garment worn by women, with mid-length sleeves and a semi-circular collar.

  • 马来语 kebaya 的音译，也写作 “卡峇雅”、“卡巴亚” 和 “可峇雅”。
  • 卡峇雅一般由丝绸制成，缝纫时间为两个月左右。
  • 无论是日常或特别的节日，马来和娘惹族群的女性常会穿上卡峇雅。
  • 关于卡峇雅的来源，主要有以下两种说法：
  1. 15 世纪时期，卡峇雅从阿拉伯传到东南亚地区；
  2. 13 至 16 世纪时期，卡峇雅的原型从中国传到印尼的爪哇岛（Java）。由于卡峇雅原先是贵族女性才能穿的衣裳，所以到了荷兰殖民时期，卡峇雅便成为了当地女性的官服。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “卡峇雅” is the transliteration of the Malay term kebaya and can also be written as “卡巴亚” and “可峇雅”.
  • The kebaya is usually made of silk and the tailoring takes about two months.
  • Malay and Nyonya women often wear the kebaya on a daily basis and on special occasions alike.
  • There are two beliefs regarding the origin of the kebaya:
  1. The kebaya spread from Arabia to Southeast Asia in the 15th century.
  2. The original kebaya spread from China to Java in Indonesia between the 13th and the 16th century. As the kebaya was originally worn only by women in the aristocracy, it was worn by women who worked as officials during the Dutch colonial period.
