A sign that displays the address number of a building or housing block.

由来
  • 大牌主要是指标示新加坡组屋座号的牌子。为了让人们即使在远处也能看清楚牌子上的号码，牌子和号码都非常大，因而得名。
  • 该词也可指有成就或名望的专业人士，如“大牌律师”。如果一个人的个 性骄傲、自满，使他人感到不满，也可称其为“大牌”。
ETYMOLOGY
  • This term refers to the signage used to display the number of a Housing & Development Board (HDB) building in Singapore. In order to ensure visibility from afar, the numbers are designed to be large and prominent, hence their name “大牌” (literally translated as “big signboard”).
  • The term also refers figuratively to successful or famous professionals, such as a “大牌律师” (“big-shot lawyer”). It can also be used to describe arrogant or snobbish people.
例句
有的居民则对大牌已换之事，浑然不知。在这里住了8年的颜女士（70岁）从记者口中听说此事时，感到非常意外。她说，她根本没注意到。对于组屋大牌为何要更换，也大感费解。（《联合晚报》，17/12/2008）
