DEFINITION

Noun

A form of exercise that involves walking and/or jogging.

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “行兼跑” is a paraphrase of the English term “walk-and-jog”.
  • Walk-and-jog allows participants to alternate between jogging and walking, depending on their fitness. They may start with jogging, but slow down to a walking pace if they need to rest. This differs from the usual long-distance competitive running.
  • Walk-and-jog can increase participants’ endurance when jogging and also encourage individuals who are physically weaker to participate and exercise.
  • Walk-and-jogs are often organised as a group activity by the Government or private enterprises in Singapore, either to simply bring people together to celebrate significant occasions, or as a fundraising event, with donations from participants or the public going to charity.
