由来

新世界是新加坡首座大型娱乐消闲场所，占地 4 万多平方公尺，是上世纪 20 至 60 年代首屈一指的娱乐场所。
1923 年，商人王文达及弟弟王平福以王三龙公司的名义，共同创立了当时最具规模的新世界游艺场。
到了 1930 年代，和王三龙公司共同发展新世界的邵氏兄弟收购了游艺场的所有股权。
新世界里的演出种类繁多，包括歌唱、舞蹈、舞台剧、戏曲等。
游乐场里除了有一座标志性的摩天轮，还有电影院、舞厅等休闲设施。
随着娱乐消闲渠道的增加，以及到访新世界游乐的人数减少，新世界最终于 1987 年关闭。
2011 年，在经过了 12 个星期的翻修工作后，做为新世界的标志的大门正式揭幕。这扇大门位于花拉公园（Farrer Park）地铁站出口旁。

ETYMOLOGY

New World Amusement Park was the first large-scale leisure and entertainment venue in Singapore, with an area of more than 40,000 square metres. It was the leading recreational spot from the 1920s to 1960s.
In 1923, businessman Ong Boon Tat and his younger brother, Ong Peng Hock, established New World Amusement Park together under the name of the company Ong Sam Leong & Co.
In the 1930s, the Shaw Brothers, who jointly developed New World Amusement Park with Ong Sam Leong & Co, acquired all of its shares.
There were many types of performances in New World Amusement Park, including singing, dancing, theatre, and opera.
In addition to its iconic ferris wheel, other entertainment facilities in the amusement park included cinemas and dance halls.
New World Amusement Park eventually closed in 1987 with the increase in entertainment options and a decline in the number of patrons.
In 2011, after 12 weeks of renovations, the symbolic gateway of New World Amusement Park was officially unveiled. The gateway is located next to the exit of Farrer Park MRT.
