ETYMOLOGY
  • Nanyang Junior College (NYJC), founded in 1978, is located at Serangoon Avenue 3.
  • NYJC was the seventh junior college (JC) to be built and its construction was aimed at meeting the rising demand for JC education. Its inaugural batch of 600 students enrolled in January 1978 and were temporarily housed at the then Westlake Secondary School. After the Serangoon campus was completed, the school moved to its present site in December the same year.
  • As the campus sits on a small hill and the air could get misty at times in the 1980s and 1990s, NYJC came to be known as “白云岗” (literally, “white cloud hill”).
