指不代表任何政党,以个人身份竞选国会议员的人。也称独立人士、无党籍人士。
Noun
Refers to an individual who runs for Parliament but does not represent any political party. Also known as “独立人士” or "无党籍人士"(candidate who is not affiliated to any party).
In Singapore, independent candidates must fufil the following criteria to be eligible to run for Parliament:
Singapore citizen.
be at least 21 years of age or above on the Nomination Day.
name appears in the current register of electors.
resident in Singapore for at least 10 years prior to the day of nomination.
able to speak English, Malay, Mandarin or Tamil. Unless they are blind or suffer from other physical limitations, they must be able to read and write in any one of the above-mentioned languages so that they can actively take part in Parliamentary proceedings.
not disqualified from being an MP under Article 45 of the Constitution.
Independent candidates who wish to contest in Group Representation Constituencies must form a group with other independent candidates.
Each political party, independent candidate or group of independent candidates may only arrange for one election agent at special polling stations.
