由来
  • 榴梿一词是马来语 durian的音译。Duri在马来语中的意思是“刺”,由于榴梿外壳带硬刺,故名为Durian
  • 榴梿原产于马来西亚半岛和婆罗洲,为东南亚一带所出产的富有经济价值的水果。榴梿的主要出口国包括马来西亚、泰国和印尼,主要出口至新加坡、香港、中国及美国。
  • 榴梿是一种乔木,树身可高达40公尺。它的种植及生产根据气候的变化而有所差异。
  • 榴梿的果实外壳呈球形并带硬刺。果肉呈乳白色、浅黄色等,果肉以甜中带苦味者为极品。
  • 榴梿的营养价值很高,含有碳水化合物、蛋白质、磷、钙、维生素C等。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term榴梿” is a transliteration of the Malay term durian. The fruit is named after its outer shell which is full of thorns, otherwise known as duri in Malay.
  • The durian is native to Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, and is an economically valuable fruit produced in Southeast Asia. The main exporters of durian include Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, who mainly export them to Singapore, Hong Kong, China and the United States.
  • The durian tree is a woody tree that can grow to a height of 40m. Its cultivation and production vary according to the climate.
  • The shell of the durian is spherical with hard thorns, while its flesh is milky white, or light yellow. The best kind of durian is one that has sweet flesh with just a hint of bitterness.
  • Durians have high nutritional value, containing carbohydrates, protein, phosphorus, calcium, and vitamin C.
  • As durians have a very pungent smell, they are banned in various places in Singapore, such as hotels, public transportation, and shopping centers.
  • There are many varieties of durian, with up to 71 varieties produced in Indonesia alone.
