DEFINITION

Noun

A device that detects the concentration of alcohol content in human blood. Also known in Mandarin as “酒精测量器”, “测醉器” or “呼气测醉试验器” .

由来

测醉器主要用于检测司机是否涉嫌醉酒或酒后驾车。
根据公路交通法令（Road Traffic Act），警方可要求任何涉嫌酒驾的司机用手提测醉器进行酒精检测。司机若拒绝检测，可被警方逮捕。
2016年，警方引进了移动测醉驾中心（Mobile Breath Evidential Analyser test centre），该仪器可以在现场配合测醉器进行更为精确和及时的酒精检测。

ETYMOLOGY

A Breath Evidential Analyser (BEA) is mainly used to detect whether a driver is drink-driving.
Under the Road Traffic Act, the police may require any driver suspected of drink-driving to undergo a test with a handheld BEA. A driver who refuses to be tested may be arrested.
In 2016, the police introduced the Mobile Breath Evidential Analyser test centre. This device complements the BEA in carrying out more accurate and timely alcohol detections on the spot.
